Tap Room Podcast 22: Full Session vs Mini Session
People go back and forth with the decision for a Mini Session and Full Session
What’s the difference and what can you expect with each type of session.
Recently, there has been a lot of offerings with photographers for mini sessions, especially during the holiday season during the later part of year. But the real question is, what’s best for you and how to choose between each session.
When to Go With a Full Session
Full sessions are handy when children are involved and if you have kids like mine, getting them both to smile at the same time can be a bit of a chore. (even if they’re tweens). The full session is good for booking enough time to get these challenges fixed and not feeling rushed as the clock ticks. '
When undergoing a full session, you have time for various outfit changes, unique If you want options. A full session means that the photographer will have nearly double the time to capture photographs. This means you can get candid shots between posing, or take the time to test out any of your specific requests. In the end, you will have more shots to choose from for print.
During a Full Session, you can choose locations and move about. The mini’s are typically one location and shots are limited with a selection of props to use for the image. If you have a particular vision for your images and want to push the level of creativity in those images, a mini session isn’t the way to go and lack additional creativity which you would get during full sessions.
For creative control and more unique imagery, to outfit changes a full session is more likely the option for you. You can choose multiple places to shoot with the photographer, while not having to rush around. This should be taken into consideration when choosing your type of session.
When a Mini Session will do.
Typically and i’ll emphasize “typically” if your family includes adults and older kids, you should have an easier time to getting the shorter sessions completed. This should help keep you within the time available and get the pictures you want completed.
When scheduling time and trying to coordinate with a group of people a quick session can fit in nicely. The trade off is you have a short amount of time and hopefully all arrive in time.
Most mini sessions are 30 minutes. If you need photographs that are simple and one theme styled, you shouldn’t need any more time.
Like the name itself, mini’s are cheaper in price and “mini” in budget. Minis come at a cheaper price because they are predetermined time slots with limited options. Which means there is little input of the session and you only control what you wear. You either like the setting or you don’t.
